Fix common FigCraft problems: the web editor won’t load or shows a blank canvas, WebGPU and WebGL2 errors, installing on Windows, macOS and Linux, and opening or saving files.

Most FigCraft problems fall into three groups: the web editor not loading, installing the desktop app, and files. The fixes below follow the official web build's hosting notes and release files.

The web editor won't load

  1. Wait for the first load. The first visit downloads about 8 MB; after that your browser caches it. The progress bar on the home page shows how far it is.
  2. Check your browser. FigCraft needs WebGPU or WebGL2. Recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer support at least WebGL2. Turn on hardware acceleration in your browser settings if it is off.
  3. Force the WebGL renderer. If a WebGPU driver misbehaves (a blank or flickering canvas), open figcraft.net/?webgl. This forces the WebGL2 backend, as documented in the web build's hosting notes.
  4. Try a fresh tab. After many reloads in one tab, close it and open a new one.
  5. Use a computer. The web build runs in mobile browsers but is not designed for touch.

Installing the desktop app

Get every installer from the download page, which links straight to the official GitHub release, and check it against SHA256SUMS.txt if you want to be sure.

  • Windows (10 or later): almost every PC needs the x64 .msi. Choose ARM64 for Snapdragon laptops. Can't install software? Use the portable ZIP.
  • macOS: open the universal .dmg and drag FigCraft to Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.
  • Linux: for the AppImage, run chmod +x figcraft-*.AppImage first. The Linux builds are made on Ubuntu 22.04 and need glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or later); the riscv64 tarball needs glibc 2.39. On older systems, use FigCraft online instead. More in Figma alternatives for Linux.
  • FreeBSD: unpack the tarball and run the figcraft binary inside.

Files

  • Open and save in the desktop app. The web build starts with one new document and has no native file dialogs yet.
  • Figma files open on a best-effort basis — read how to open Figma files in FigCraft.
  • Starting points: the desktop app has eight starter templates on its home screen, and the templates gallery has complete example files.
